Berndnaut Smilde is a Dutch artist, creating thoroughly unexpected art in unexpected places. The concept of creating a floating cloud inside a building is simplistic, but the effect is powerful, and immediately disarms the viewer, making them reinterpret the physical space and feeling of the imagery.

National Geographic has a fascinating story on Smilde’s art, that inhabits a number of buildings around the world.

His series is entitled “Nimbus”, and brings these solitary, fleeting moments to modern and historical buildings, each of which have their own feel.
