Whether you’re running your own business or taking care of your growing children, the first few hours after waking up often dictate how your entire day will go. That’s why developing a stellar morning routine is so important – it ensures that you can start your day on the right foot, ready to embrace whatever challenges come your way.
With that in mind, here’s the perfect six-step morning routine!

Step One: Set your alarm for the same time each weekday.
While you should give yourself the chance to properly rest (and sleep in) during the weekend, setting your alarm for the same time each day is a great way to fall into a consistent (and healthy) sleep routine. This is because it will help you to gain better control of your internal body clock, meaning that you’ll find it easier to both fall asleep and wake up at certain times. As such, you should ensure that your alarm is set for the same time each weekday!
You should also, where possible, avoid snoozing your alarm. This is because the amount of additional sleep you get from snoozing your alarm is minimal, and you’re cutting into your time to do something useful and productive by doing so. Some people find it helpful to get out of bed right away when their alarm goes off, as opposed to reaching for their phone right away.

Step Two: Have breakfast.
According to a recent study, 1/4 of adults in the US skip breakfast on a daily basis – despite knowing just how important this meal is. After all, not only does eating breakfast kickstart your metabolism, but it also provides you with a much-needed burst of energy to carry you through to lunchtime, especially when you opt for a healthy meal that contains some of the top foods you need to keep your brain and body healthy!
For an easy boost to your morning meal, consider adding nutrient-rich cranberry powder to your breakfast. This supplement supports urinary health, boosts immunity, and adds a tangy flavor to favorites like smoothies, oatmeal, or yogurt. By incorporating other fruits and natural supplements to your breakfast, you can enhance the nutritional value of your meal with minimal effort.
By ensuring that you have breakfast right away, you’re eliminating the chances of ‘running out of time to eat’. Remember, if you’re often working against the clock in the morning, you can always prepare your breakfast the evening prior instead!

Step Three: Get ready for the day.
With your breakfast (and likely a cup of coffee behind you), now is the time to get ready for the rest of the day, whether you use this time to shower or complete your beauty and skincare routine. Either way, you should try to do each task in the same order each day, as this often means you’re able to make more effective use of your time, ensuring that you remain on schedule.
Again, there are many different ways in which you can make this process as quick and efficient as possible. For example, you could plan out your outfits before bed, so that the only thing you really need to do in the morning is get dressed.

Step Four: Take ten minutes for yourself.
Once you’re dressed and almost ready to go, try to take ten minutes for yourself. There are many different ways in which you can spend this time. For example, you could brush off the cobwebs and get your mind working by completing a crossword or practising meditation – both of which are proven to be good for your mental health and can help you bring the right kind of positivity and energy into your day!

Step Five: Check you have everything you need for the day.
Whether you’re heading on a day out or to the office, taking a few minutes to ensure you have everything you need in your bag is also useful. This way, you aren’t left scrambling to find a solution at the last minute or when out and about. For example, you should make sure you have your keys, purse and, if relevant, your lunch. If you tend to be a little forgetful, you may benefit from running through a checklist!

Step Six: Go for a short walk.
Whether you factor in a walk to your morning commute (such as by getting off your bus a few stops early) or simply go for a quick lap around the block, there are many benefits tied to starting your day with a short walk. In fact, it’s a great way to boost your mental well-being, especially if you’re going to be spending the majority of your day indoors. This is because it means you’re ensuring that you have access to natural light and fresh air, which can also help to fight off the last signs of fatigue that your coffee couldn’t quite shake!
In addition to this, studies have found that 10 minutes of brisk walking “increases mental alertness and positive mood,” as such, it’s a great way to get in the zone, especially if you have a busy day ahead!

Final Thoughts.
While it may not seem that way to begin with, it’s relatively easy to take control of your morning routine and turn it into something that is incredibly beneficial. After all, by having a routine in mind, you’ll no longer feel as though you’re rushing straight from your bed and into the office, as you’ll have a checklist of tasks to work through that help you to make better use of your time.
Furthermore, your morning routine does not have to be all that long, either! After all, there are only so many tasks that you need to complete during this time, such as eating breakfast and getting ready for the day – the others are just added benefits that come from having a better handle on your time. Furthemore, as mentioned above, there are many ways in which you can cut down on the time you spend on these tasks, such as by preparing breakfasts ahead of time, such as overnight oats and fruit bowls.
As such, while you may not be a morning person to begin with, you’d be surprised at just how quickly you can become one by following this simple, six-step routine!
