The rainy opening ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympics were fascinating to watch, a choreographed spectacle that took place alongside the famous Seine river, and countless famous landmarks. The still under-construction Notre Dame Cathedral was present, as were the tree-lined buildings that were packed with spectators, catching a glimpse of athletes arriving by boat.

However, Paris’ true icon, the Eiffel Tower, stood as the real landmark, a defining point in both the city and the ceremony’s trajectory.

As the multi-hour ceremony came to a close, athletes and organizers moved to the Eiffel Tower to witness the closing moments of the memorable opening event.

Singer Celine Dion sang her heart out from the tower itself, overcoming personal health issues to give a fantastic rendition of Edith Piaf’s ‘Hymn To Love’.

The 135 year-old tower was adorned with lasers and lights to create a stunning show that felt like Paris re-introducing itself to the world. Below are some photographs that give the mood from the City of Lights, which truly lived up to its name.
