Entitled I Was Born, this example of earth art by Japanese Hajime Yoshida Architecture is a minimal slice into the ground, a slim wedge taken out, replaced with an all-red stairway down to a small landing. That’s it. Built in an unassuming gravel courtyard, it’s a captivating concept and execution, and we’re sure the effect is powerful in person.
By digging a hole in the ground and giving people a different perspective, we are strongly aware of the existence of the earth, and at the same time “others” see “I” who is experiencing art as an extraordinary looks in a ordinary landscape.
It is an art space that connects the relationship between the earth and people.
