Having witnessed a full solar eclipse in Oregon, in 2017, we can attest to the amazing moment of the sky turning dark, things getting chilly, and the sun becoming a bright white halo around a darkened moon. It was an unforgettable experience, and one that people in Chile and Argentina got to experience this week.

Located mostly over the ocean, the solar eclipse did make landfall in South America, including the famed Atacama Desert, where people flocked to see the spectacle for themselves.
