When we think of summer, we think of sunshine, vacations, and outdoor adventures. Summer vacations will be on most people’s summer to-do lists. But you can still have a delightful and memorable time this summer without leaving your home.
You don’t even need a backyard to do some of these activities. Here are some ways to celebrate summer at home.

Gardening
Have you always admired your neighbour’s garden? Why not start yours? Gardening is therapeutic and rewarding. Plant herbs, vegetables, and flowers. And don’t worry if you don’t have a garden.
You can grow herbs and vegetables on a windowsill or indoors. Some of the best indoor plants include hearts, basil, lemongrass, snakes, peace lilies, mint, and rosemary.
Movie Night Under the Stars
How does transforming your backyard into an open-air cinema sound? This activity is great for friends, partners, or kids. All you need is a projector, a black wall, a large white sheet, and comfortable seating. Find the right movie and add popcorn, snacks, and drinks for an authentic movie theatre experience.

Start a Book Club
If you have friends who love reading, starting a book club would be great. Each member can choose a book for the group to read and discuss. Ask your friends to invite their friends so that you can have a group of 8-10 people.
Backyard Camping
Do you enjoy camping? You can turn your backyard into a camping ground and enjoy a night under the stars. To make it authentic, create a campfire (or a fire pit) and roast marshmallows. Tell ghost stories if you have children or enjoy nature at night.

Barbecue Party
There’s no better way to enjoy summer than a casual get-together involving burgers, scenic sunsets, and friends. Invite your friends and family and grill up some delicious burgers, hot dogs, and vegetable skewers. You will only need a charcoal or gas grills. You can also include refreshing summer drinks like lemonade or iced tea.
Host a Cooking Competition
Call your friend over or challenge your partner to an at-home cooking competition. You can prepare the same kind of meal or let everyone choose what they want to eat. Have a prize for the winner, like a movie ticket, a dinner for two, or a concert ticket.
Pick a recipe you have always wanted to try if you need someone to compete with. Challenge yourself and set a prize, too. If the meal comes out the way you expected, gift yourself.
DIY Water Park
Summer heat calls for creativity. To beat the heat, create a water park in your backyard. Set up sprinklers, slip-and-slides, and inflatable pools. A DIY water park is a great way to keep kids entertained and relaxed without leaving your home.

Garden Picnic
Summer is the best time for picnics. What’s better than the sun shining on your face as you lay on the grass surrounded by beautiful plants and yummy snacks? Maybe the beach. While most people go to the park, your backyard is also perfect to celebrate with family and friends.
Prepare a picnic basket with your favourite snacks, sandwiches, and beverages. Lay a blanket in your garden and enjoy a relaxing meal in the fresh air surrounded by nature.

Spa Day
When last did you pamper yourself? How about a spa day at home? You don’t need to turn your home into a fancy wellness retreat. Light some candles, play soft music, and enjoy a face mask, bath, or massage as you sip your favourite wine. You could also invite friends over.
Learn Something New
There is always something you want to do, but you push it because you don’t have time. This can be creating a product, learning a new language, or taking a course. Whatever it is, this summer is the right time.
Outdoor Yoga
If you usually practice yoga indoors, a change of scenery could be exactly what you need this summer. Practicing yoga outdoors will be refreshing and exciting. Fresh air and natural surroundings will make your yoga practice more enjoyable and relaxing. Find a quiet spot in your backyard and follow online classes on your tablet, or work on your favourite poses and sequences.

Game Nights
Organizing game nights is another way to celebrate summer with friends and family at home. You can play classic board games, card games, or even create a game alone. If you prefer outdoor games, you can play cornhole, badminton, or even catch. Be creative and come up with games everyone can play.
Summer is a time to celebrate and have fun. Fortunately, you don’t need to leave home to enjoy it. You can still find activities to do by yourself, with your family, or with friends. All you need is creativity and explore new hobbies.
