Images of the earth are commonplace, and even more of those images are renderings, either mashups of pictures of completely illustrated. For the real photos of earth, you need to rely on satellites and other orbiting craft that can snap authentic photos of the planet. Luckily, we have those. And using the NASA-NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) satellite, we have some gorgeous new photos of earth, taken at nighttime. The result are some gorgeous and eye opening pictures, showing just how much civilization has spread across the globe. The major cities of earth shine brightly, even from space, showing just how alive and pulsing with life the world is.
