Wisdom is a Laysan albatross, and has been measured to be at least 72 years of age. This type of Albatross is found in the northern Pacific Ocean, and they breed in the northwestern Hawaiian islands. Wisdom was first banded by scientists in 1956, meaning she is at least 72 years of age, possibly older. She has laid eggs as recently as 2021, with chicks that hatched. The fact that she is still laying eggs is remarkable, and shows us how much we still have to learn about birds, their lifespans, and their migratory patterns.
