gravity-explosion GRAVITY 2013_gravity_movie-wide

Alfonso Cuarón has slowly but surely become a tour de force director over the last several years, putting out smart, dramatic, intense and well-acted films. Children of Men remains one of my very favorite films, and when I heard he was directing a space thriller, I was excited and hopeful. Well, the film debuts tonight, and the reviews are in.  Gravity’s reviews are off the charts. I can’t wait to see it. I’ll post an update after my first screening.

“In a little more than 90 minutes [it] rewrites the rules of cinema as we have known them.”
A.O. Scott New York Times

“Gravity, a weightless ballet and a cold-sweat nightmare, intimates mystery and profundity, with that mixture of beauty and terror that the Romantics called the sublime.”
Liam Lacey Globe and Mail

“In one form or another, motion pictures have been with us since the middle of the 19th century, but there’s never been one like “Gravity.””
Joe Morgenstern  Wall Street Journal

“Gravity into a thing of transcendent beauty and terror. It’s more than a movie. It’s some kind of miracle.”
Peter Travers Rolling Stone

    Hi Ben,
Here I am at work, checking my email, which includes my Moss & Fogs for a couple of days. I forwarded to Fred the baseball logos. I was excited to see you loved Children of Men, for I think that was a wonderful movie. You might not realize how often your blog often provides a moment of real interest. Thanks for doing it! I’m sure it takes more time than you have some days, so when you quit, I will understand, but for now, know that I appreciate it.
    Love, Jude
