Breathing new, thrilling life into a 40-year-old skyscraper, firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz is planning to build an external glass elevator onto the side of the 1,136-feet-high foot tall Aon Center.
The elevator will make the sheer vertical trip in just under a minute, and promises some of the best views of the city’s growing skyline. It’s a clever idea, and one we think more architects should embrace, enhancing existing structures in ways that reinvigorate and inspire.
When open in 2020, the elevator will be the tallest of its kind in North America, and will include a brand new observation deck. Word of caution, we would strongly recommend not visiting if you have a fear of heights. Via Dezeen:
